ThunderWolves’ Mahir Bingoel Named RMAC Men’s Soccer Summit Award Winner

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado State University Pueblo’ Mahir Bingoel is the 2022 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Summit Award winner, the league announced Thursday.
 
A senior defender for the Pack, Bingoel enters the RMAC Men’s Soccer Tournament Championship match as a business management major with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average. The Hanover, Germany, native has helped the ThunderWolves to one of the most prolific seasons in program history as they enter the title game ranked No. 9 in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll. Bingoel has 12 appearances and five starts in the 2022 campaign and helps the ThunderWolves’ defense limit opponents to a .117 shooting percentage.
 
Bingoel will be honored prior to Friday’s championship match as No. 2 seed CSU Pueblo takes on top-seeded Colorado School of Mines for the tournament title at 6 p.m. MT. The Orediggers will host the Pack at Stermole Soccer Stadium in Golden, Colo., for the championship tilt which will be broadcast on the RMAC Network.
 
The RMAC Summit Award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA that is also competing at the site of the finals for their respective sport’s championship. Summit Award winners must have competed in 20 percent of available competitions throughout the current season. All GPAs are based on a straight-grading scale to ensure consistency among nominees. All ties are broken by the total number of credit hours completed through the most recently concluded semester.
 
To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must be a sophomore or above and have participated in their sport at their institution for at least two years. Student-athletes must be active members of their teams, traveling and competing at the RMAC championship event. Graduate students are not eligible to win the award.
