Weiss, Steffeck Crowned Season’s Final RMAC Women’s Basketball Weekly Winners

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – South Dakota Mines’ Ryan Weiss and Colorado School of Mines’ Ashley Steffeck are the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Players of the Week, the league announced Monday.
 
Weiss closes out her 2021-22 campaign as the RMAC Offensive Player of the Week after pushing the Hardrockers to a pair of wins over New Mexico Highlands and University of Colorado Colorado Springs last week. The Ames, Iowa, native averaged 19 points and 10 rebounds on the week, while charging the offense with a blistering 50-percent average from three-point range. Against the Mountain Lions, Weiss tabbed 24 points, six rebounds and three assists, pushing her team to a 77-67 win. She then registered 14 points, 14 boards and four assists in Saturday’s 71-54 win over New Mexico Highlands.
 
Steffeck earns her second Defensive Player of the Week award this season after helping the Orediggers to a pair of wins over Adams State and Colorado State University Pueblo to close the season with a 19-3 conference record and the outright regular-season title. Her balanced play was paramount as the junior averaged 7.5 points, 6.0 steals, 3.5 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game in the final week of conference play.
 
Offensive Player of the Week: Ryan Weiss, South Dakota Mines – R-Sr. – G – Ames, Iowa
The redshirt senior closed out her collegiate career by leading the Hardrockers to a pair of victories over UCCS and NMHU. On Thursday, at UCCS, she recorded 24 points, including 20 in the first half, shot 8-for-14 from the field and 6-for-9 from beyond the arc. On Saturday she recorded a double-double with 14 points and a career-high 14 rebounds to go along with four steals.
 
Defensive Player of the Week: Ashley Steffeck, Colorado School of Mines – Jr. – G – Fort Collins, Colo.
Steffeck helped Mines claim their second-straight RMAC regular-season championship over the weekend while averaging 6.0 steals and 1.0 blocks per game. She had six steals against Adams State to clinch a share of the title and followed up with six more steals against CSU Pueblo on Saturday to take home the outright crown for Mines. Steffeck ranks first in the nation in total steals and steals per game. She is the best defensive player on the No. 1-ranked scoring defense in the RMAC.
