Cedrick Reynaud, Kevin Zapanta Named RMAC Baseball Weekly Winners

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Adams State’s Cedrick Reynaud and Colorado School of Mines’ Kevin Zapanta are the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, the league announced Tuesday.
 
Reynaud pushed the Grizzlies (4-18, 2-10 RMAC) to a 2-2 split over the weekend against Colorado State University Pueblo, cementing his first RMAC Player of the Week award of the season. The senior claimed eight hits in his 12 plate appearances and finished the series with a .667 batting average and a .778 on-base percentage. He drove in five RBI and launched three home runs while securing 10 runs of his own. Reynaud closed the series with a 1.583 slugging percentage putout 15 runners on the defensive side of the ball.
 
Adams State is back in action this weekend, hosting pod play against Colorado Mesa and Regis. The Grizzlies open the pod weekend with a solo game against the Rangers Friday, April 1, at 11 a.m. MT. All games between ASU, CMU and RU will be hosted on the Grizzlies’ ASU Baseball Field in Alamosa, Colo.
 
Zapanta is the RMAC Pitcher of the Week after his complete-game victory on the bump for the Orediggers (18-10, 7-9 RMAC) against Colorado Christian last week. The righty from Denver, Colo., improved his season pitching record to 6-1 after dealing six strikeouts over seven innings for Mines while holding the Cougars to a .208 batting average in a 14-1 win in game two of the series.
 
Colorado School of Mines will host a pod series of its own with UCCS and New Mexico Highlands this weekend. As the host institution, the Orediggers will open the pod against the Mountain Lions Friday, April 1, at 4 p.m., on Mines’ Jim Darden Field in Golden, Colo.
 
Baseball Player of the Week: Cedrick Reynaud, Adams State – Sr. – C/DH – Las Cruces, N.M.
Reynaud was a catalyst for Adams State this weekend as he hit .667 en route to a series split with the ThunderWolves. He went 8-of-12 at the plate and scored 10 runs for Adams State with three home runs and one triple. He also reached base on six 'free passes' as he earned two intentional walks, two conventional walks and was hit by a pitch on two occasions.
 
Baseball Pitcher of the Week: Kevin Zapanta, Colorado School of Mines – R-So. – RHP – Denver, Colo.
Zapanta improved to 6-1 on the weekend, which ties him for first in the RMAC in wins, with a complete-game victory over the Cougars. He earned his sixth win by tossing a seven-inning victory, featuring just one run on five hits and six strikeouts with zero walks, marking the first complete game of his career. He now ranks among the RMAC’s top-5 in nine different categories for the 2022 season.
