Noah Hermosillo Named RMAC Wrestler of the Year
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Adams State’s Noah Hermosillo is the 2021-22 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Year, the league announced Wednesday. Hermosillo’s award was announced alongside the league’s individual honors and all-conference rosters. The RMAC wrestling individual honors and all-conference rosters are voted on by the league’s eight head coaches. Coaches are not permitted to vote for themselves or their own student-athletes for any awards.
Hermosillo claims the league’s Wrestler of the Year honor after claiming the nation’s highest honor following his national championship in the 149-pound weight class at the 2021-22 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships. The All-American battled his way to a national title while also pushing the Grizzlies to a fifth-place team finish at the NCAA Championships. Hermosillo’s national championship was just one of three individual titles for Adams State at the NCAA Wrestling Championships.
Colorado Mesa’s Dawson Collins claims the league’s Freshman of the Year award after taking fifth place in the 125-pound weight class at the NCAA Championships. Collins closed the season with a 26-5 individual record after claiming a 14-2 major decision in his final match of the season, earning himself All-America distinctions. His performance throughout the 2021-22 campaign helped the Mavericks claim the RMAC regular-season championship.
Adams State head coach Jason Ramstetter earns RMAC Coach of the Year after leading the Grizzlies through an incredible season. In addition to Hermosillo, Ramstetter guided Jonathan Andreatta and Josiah Rider to national championships in the 133-pound and 157-pound weight classes, respectively. After leading his three performers to a 13-0 record at the NCAA Wrestling Championships, Ramstetter was crowned NWCA Division II National Tournament Coach of the Year.
Colorado Mesa leads the way among all-conference rosters with two first-team selections and four second team honorees for six spots in total. Adams State checks in next with five all-conference wrestlers, including a conference-best three first-teamers. Colorado School of Mines earns four all-conference spots but also earned a trio of first-team selections. Western Colorado nabs three spots, followed by Chadron State’s two honorees and New Mexico Highlands’ lone selection.
