Anthony Martinez, Dawson Hopkinson Named RMAC Men’s Athletes of the Week
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Metropolitan State University of Denver’s Anthony Martinez and University of Colorado Colorado Springs’ Dawson Hopkinson are the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, the league announced Wednesday.
Martinez earns his first Track Athlete of the Week honor this season following a pair of podium finishes in the 110-meter hurdle and 4x100m relay events for the Roadrunners last week at the Mines Kit Mayer Classic in Golden, Colo. A freshman, Martinez clocked in at 14.90 in his hurdles event, placing second overall and beating a trio of NCAA Division I opponents in the process. He then ran the opening leg for the Roadrunners’ 4x100m relay team, setting the tone for his squad to capture a first-place finish with a time of 42.90.
Hopkinson claims Men’s Field Athlete of the Week after setting a UCCS program record in the pole vault last week at the Mines Kit Mayer Classic. He cleared the bar at 5.15m (16’10.75”) to capture second place among a field of seven competitors. The mark also stands as a personal-best effort for the Greeley, Colo., native and ranks 11th in that nation this season.
