2021-22 RMAC Men’s Indoor Track and Field All-Academic Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Mesa’s Justin Thompson is the 2021-22 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s Indoor Track and Field Academic Athlete of the Year, the league announced Wednesday. In addition to his individual award, Thompson was also named one of 10 RMAC All-Academic First Team selections. RMAC All-Academic teams are voted on by the league’s sports information directors.

Thompson wraps an impressive indoor season after earning All-America distinctions for the Mavericks, following an 11th-place finish in the long jump at the 2021-22 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. The academic award is the latest in a growing list of awards as Thompson also earned the RMAC Men’s Indoor Track and Field Summit Award this season. He was also awarded the NCAA Elite 90 Award, which is reserved for the student-athlete with the highest grade-point average, competing at the national championship meet. The Carbondale, Colo., native was also named a first team all-conference selection in the long jump, following a third-place finish at the RMAC Indoor Championships. Thompson holds a perfect 4.0 GPA for the Mavericks as an exercise science major.

University of Colorado Colorado Springs leads the way among first-team selection with four honorees, Dakota Abbott, Sky Ciccarelli, Thorben Hast and Afewerki Zeru. Colorado School of Mines checks in next with a trio of selections in Jake Mitchem, Dillon Powell and Grant Redmond. Alongside Thompson, Chadron State’s Daniel Reynolds and Colorado State University Pueblo’s Nate Miller round out the first-team roster.
