COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Mesa’s Haydn McGeary is the 2022 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Year, the league announced Wednesday. His honor was announced alongside the league’s four other individual awards, the RMAC All-Conference rosters and the RMAC Gold Glove Team and the league’s honorable mention list. RMAC individual awards, all-conference teams and Gold Glove honorees are nominated and voted on by the league’s nine head coaches. Coaches are not permitted to vote for themselves or their student-athletes.
McGeary claims the award for the second consecutive season and does so after leading the Mavericks to their 10th-straight regular-season championship after closing the RMAC schedule with a 23-9 conference record and ranked as the nation’s No. 14 team. The junior leads the nation in on-base percentage (.571), batting average (.463), slugging percentage (1.043) and home runs (26). He has racked up 41 extra-base hits on the year and owns a 1.614 OPS in addition to driving in 61 RBI throughout the regular season. McGeary’s individual honor comes alongside an all-conference first team nod at the designated hitter position.
Colorado School of Mines’ Tyler Blomster is the RMAC Pitcher of the Year after throwing down a 7-2 record in 11 appearances this season. Blomster has delivered three complete games, a pair of shutouts and one save for the Orediggers. Over 68.1 innings, the righty has registered a conference-leading 2.50 earned-run average and has fanned 60 batters.
Metropolitan State University of Denver’s Cam Yuran is the RMAC Freshman of the Year after a stellar debut season with the Roadrunners. Yuran logged 44 starts on 47 appearances throughout the regular season and is tied for third on the MSU Denver roster with 11 home runs. He’s scored 51 runs on 60 hits and driven in 50 RBI. Of his 60 hits, 31 have gone for extra bases. On the defensive side, Yuran has 38 putouts and a .930 fielding percentage.
Regis’ Brady Gilmore claims the Freshman Pitcher of the Year award after making 14 appearances in his first season with the Rangers. He has three wins over 40.2 innings and has struck out 36 batters throughout the 2022 campaign. He started in six contests and helped Regis claim the No. 2 seed at the upcoming RMAC Baseball Tournament.
Drew LaComb is the RMAC Coach of the Year after leading the Rangers to a 20-12 conference record in just his third season at the helm. After leading his team to the No. 2 seed at the conference tournament, he earned a trio of all-conference selections and one Gold Glove honoree this season. The Rangers are riding a three-game win streak ahead of their postseason slate.
Colorado Mesa and MSU Denver lead the way in all-conference selections with eight honorees apiece. The Mavericks earned five first-team student-athletes, while the Roadrunners tabbed two first-teamers of their own. Colorado School of Mines checks in next with four selections, followed by three honorees from Regis. Adams State, Colorado Christian, Colorado State University Pueblo, New Mexico Highlands and University of Colorado Colorado Springs round out the all-conference teams with two selections apiece.
The Mavericks and Roadrunners also lead the way on the RMAC Gold Glove team, each with a trio of selections. The Grizzlies, the Cougars and the Rangers round out the defensive team with one honoree each.
The RMAC postseason schedule begins Wednesday, May 11, at the conference tournament, a four-day event hosted at Bus Bergman Sports Complex in Grand Junction, Colo. First up in tournament play is a showdown between second-seeded Regis and fifth-seeded Colorado School of Mines, beginning at 11 a.m. MT. Each round of tournament play will be streamed live on the
RMAC Network.
