COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The 2022 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s Lacrosse All-Conference teams were announced on Saturday alongside the league’s individual honors. RMAC individual awards and all-conference honors are nominated and voted on by the league’s four head coaches.

Colorado Mesa’s Jed Brummett and Hunter Holcomb join Westminster’s Easton Albert as the RMAC’s Co-Attackers of the Year. Adams State’s Jacob Austin and CMU’s Sergio Pelayo, Trent Pernell and James Steinke were crowned the conference’s Co-Midfielders of the Year. The Mavs’ Caden Hathaway, Trey Corkin and Hayden Scherr join Westminster’s Cello Clark as the RMAC Co-Defenders of the Year. Colorado State University Pueblo’s Ethan Ferrie and Westminster’s Gavin Beilman were tabbed RMAC Co-Goalies of the Year. In addition to his midfielder award, CMU’s Hathaway was also named the league’s Freshman of the Year. CMU head coach Vince Smith rounds out the league’s individual awards as the RMAC Coach of the Year.

Brummett and Holcomb each claim Attacker of the Year honors for the Mavs after pacing the offense to a No. 9 team ranking in scoring offense, averaging 24.5 points per game. Brummett has recorded 28 points on 23 goals and five assists, while Holcomb delivered 14 goals on 13 starts and 17 appearances. Albert has 19 goals on 35 shots on goal for the Griffins this season, in addition to a .388 shots-on-goal percentage.

Austin earns the midfielder honor after running the Grizzlies offense throughout the 2022 campaign with 12 points on nine goals and three assists, scoring in six of ASU’s nine contests. Pelayo, Pernell and Steinke also share the RMAC midfield award for the Mavs after combining for 55 assists ahead of Saturday’s title game.

Corkin, Hathaway and Scherr split the Defender of the Year award for Colorado Mesa after bolstering the Mavs’ defense, which allows 9.4 goals per game. The trio’s defensive efforts allow CMU to outscore opponents by a nine-goal margin. Clark also earns a share of the RMAC defensive award after leading the Griffins’ to a No. 7 ranking for scoring defense, allowing just 8.3 goals per game.

CSU Pueblo’s Ferrie is the Co-Goalie of the Year after starting in the net for all 12 of the ThunderWolves’ games this year. He provided 179 saves for a .546 save percentage and averaged 14.9 saves per game, which ranks first in the RMAC and second in the nation. Westminster’s Beilman also earns a share of the Goalie of the Year honor after leading the Griffins’ goalkeeping contingent with 128 goals and a .593 save percentage.

Hathaway also earned Freshman of the Year accolades for the Mavericks for his stellar efforts in his debut season at Colorado Mesa. He has cracked the starting lineup nine times and made 16 appearances while providing 29 ground balls, 14 caused turnovers, four goals and two assists.

Smith is the RMAC Coach of the Year after leading the Mavericks to a share of the regular-season championship with a 5-1 conference record. He has constructed a gritty team that currently ranks first in the nation for face-off winning percentage (.724) and fifth nationally for ground balls (648).

In addition to the league’s individual honors, the RMAC All-Conference First and Second Teams were also announced. Colorado Mesa leads the way with 15 honorees, followed by 14 selections from Westminster, six student-athletes from CSU Pueblo and one recipient from Adams State. Ties in voting led to extra positions listed among the all-conference first and second rosters.

The 2022 RMAC Men’s Lacrosse Tournament continues Saturday, May 7, with the championship game, featuring the top-seeded Griffins and the No. 2 seed Mavericks. Opening faceoff is slated for 6 p.m. (MT) at Dumke Field on the Westminster campus in Salt Lake City, Utah.
