COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference has announced the winners of its 2021-22 Brechler Awards. The Brechler Awards are presented to the team that compiles the highest grade-point average (GPA) for each of its 21 league-sponsored sports.

Westminster leads the way among Brechler Award winners for the second consecutive year, and the fourth time in the last five years, earning nine awards for the 2021-22 academic year. The Griffins claimed the top team GPA in women’s basketball, women’s cross country, men’s golf, men’s lacrosse, men’s soccer, men’s and women’s indoor track and field and men’s and women’s outdoor track and field. Among Westminster’s nine Brechler Awards, the Griffins’ women’s cross country program leads the way with a collective GPA of 3.831.

Regis occupies the second-place position with five Brechler Awards of its own. The Rangers claimed honors for baseball, men’s cross country, women’s lacrosse, women’s soccer and softball. Regis’ softball program leads the way among its five award-winning programs with a 3.68 team GPA.

Black Hills State collects a pair of awards for its men’s basketball and football programs, which earned team GPAs of 3.581 and 2.995, respectively.

Adams State, Colorado Christian, Colorado Mesa, Colorado State University Pueblo and Western Colorado round out the 2021-22 Brechler Award winners with one honor each. The Grizzlies claimed the top GPA in men’s swimming, while the Cougars’ women’s golf team earned their award. CMU’s wrestling program claims its lone honor. The ThunderWolves bring home the Brechler Award in volleyball, while the Mountaineers claimed the accolade for women’s swimming and diving.

The Brechler Awards are named in honor of Paul W. Brechler, a former RMAC commissioner (1976-90), and his wife Wanda Brechler, who were the first inductees into the RMAC Hall of Fame. Each team's GPA is calculated by dividing the total quality points by the total number of credits for each semester. Team GPAs are submitted to the RMAC office by each institution’s compliance administrator.
