Mountain Lions’ Layla Almasri Named RMAC Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs’ Layla Almasri is the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.
Almasri secured the individual title at the 15th Annual UCCS Rust Buster over the weekend with a course record time of 17:26.74 in the 5K race. She has now earned the individual title for two consecutive years, this time breaking her record while leading her squad to a first-place victory with 17 points.

With her record setting time, Almasri shaved five seconds off her time from last seasons event. She bested 83 runners to earn her latest individual title, beating the second-place finisher by 31 seconds. Almasri’s performance led the Mountain Lions to a first-place team finish with 17 points at Monument Valley Park, two points shy of a perfect team score.
