Jon’il Fugett and Brendan La Rose Claim RMAC Men’s Basketball Weekly Honors
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs’ Jon’il Fugett and Fort Lewis’ Brendan La Rose are the week eight Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Players of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Fugett claims his first Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season after leading the Mountain Lions (12-4, 6-3 RMAC) to a 2-1 record last week. The senior recorded 17 points on a 70 percent field goal average in Tuesday’s 91-63 win over Chadron State. In Friday’s matchup with No. 15 Fort Lewis, Fugett led the Mountain Lions with 21 points and eight rebounds. The guard then registered nine assists, three steals and a game-high 28 points on Saturday in a 91-79 victory over Adams State.
UCCS will remain home to host a pair of front-range foes starting with Metropolitan State University of the Denver on Friday, Jan. 13. Tipoff between the Mountain Lions and Roadrunners is slated for 7 p.m. MT inside Gallogly Event Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
La Rose claims the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week honor for the first time this season after leading the Skyhawks (13-1, 7-1 RMAC) to an unbeaten weekend. The senior registered three blocks and one steal while helping the Fort Lewis force 23 turnovers against the Mountain Lions. In Saturday’s 75-62 win over Regis, the forward claimed a career-high four blocks while also grabbing eight boards, eight points and one assist.
The Skyhawks will hit the road for a pair of conference showdowns starting with Chadron State on Friday, Jan. 13. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. inside the Chicoine Center in Chadron Neb.
Offensive Player of the Week: Jon’il Fugett, UCCS – Sr. – G – Denver, Colo.
Fugett was the offensive spark that the Mountain Lions needed after combining for 22.0 points per game and four assists per game all while shooting a strong 63.2 percent from the field and 64.3 from beyond the arc over the weekend. The Denver, Colo., native also recorded 7.3 rebounds and two steals per game. He currently ranks fourth in the RMAC in three-pointers (36), ninth in the conference for points scored (233) and 12th in the league in points per game with 14.6.

Defensive Player of the Week: Brendan La Rose, Fort Lewis – Sr. – C – Falcon, Colo.
La Rose led the Skyhawks’ defense as he averaged 5.5 rebounds, 5.5 points and 3.5 blocked shots per game last weekend. The senior helped Fort Lewis hold UCCS to a 27 percent three-point shooting average while also forcing the Mountain Lions into 23 turnovers. Against the Rangers, La Rose collected a career-best four blocked shots while also registering a season-high eight rebounds.
