South Dakota Mines’ Jayden Johannsen, Western Colorado’s Ricky Freymond and Malcom Wesley Receive Week Five RMAC Football Awards
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – South Dakota Mines’ (3-2, 2-1 RMAC) Jayden Johannsen, along with Western Colorado’s (5-0, 3-0 RMAC) Ricky Freymond and Malcom Wesley were named the Week Five Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Football Players of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Offensive Player of the Week: Jayden Johannsen, South Dakota Mines – R-Jr. – QB – Sioux Falls, S.D.
Johannsen was key in the Hardrockers' rivalry win at Black Hills State. He completed 19 of 30 passes for 237 yards and three touchdowns. Johannsen was heavily utilized on the ground, rushing for 78 yards on 12 carries and adding two more scores. He also played mistake-free football, not turning the ball over in a dominant 49-14 win.
Honorable Mention: Rasheed Rankin, Adams State; TJ Chukwurah, Black Hills State; Noah Roper, Colorado School of Mines; Reggie Retzlaff, CSU Pueblo; Croix Burney, Fort Lewis; Malik Norman, New Mexico Highlands; Drew Nash, Western Colorado.
Defensive Player of the Week: Ricky Freymond, Western Colorado – R-So. – DL – Chino, Calif.
Freymond was one of many key parts of the Mountaineers’ defensive efforts against Colorado Mesa on Saturday. He registered five tackles, including four tackles for loss. Freymond also recorded two sacks, including one with a forced fumble. Through five games this season, he has collected 14 total tackles (12 solo), registered four sacks and seven tackles for loss.

Special Teams Player of the Week: Malcom Wesley, Western Colorado – R-Sr. – DB – Santa Ana, Calif.
Wesley was the special teams difference maker for the Mountaineers in their 43-7 win over the Mavericks. The redshirt senior recorded two blocked punts for Western Colorado, one of which was returned for a touchdown. Wesley has collected seven tackles this season as a defensive back for the Mountaineers.
