John Matocha, Cody Ramming, Moosah Alsaffar Named Week Nine RMAC Football Players of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado School of Mines’ John Matocha joins Colorado State University Pueblo’s Cody Ramming and Moosah Alsaffar as the Week Nine Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Football Players of the Week, the league announced Monday.
 
Offensive Player of the Week: John Matocha | Colorado School of Mines | R-Sr. | QB | Magnolia, Texas
Matocha quarterbacked No. 1 Colorado School of Mines to a statement 42-7 win over No. 9/13 Western Colorado over the weekend to remain undefeated and claim sole custody of first place in RMAC standings. The redshirt senior carved apart the RMAC’s leading defense with 331 total yards, rushing for a season-high 90 yards and passing for 241 yards and three touchdowns. Matocha put Mines ahead in the second quarter with a 14-yard touchdown pass to Max McLeod, then hit consecutive touchdown passes in a driving snowstorm to Zach Hoffman and McLeod around the turn of the fourth quarter. His third touchdown pass of the day was the 172nd of his career, breaking the NCAA Division II record previously held by Shepherd’s Tyson Bagent.

Defensive Player of the Week: Cody Ramming | CSU Pueblo | R-Jr. | DE | Littleton, Colo.
Ramming had a big day defensively for the Pack in its 59-20 home win over Colorado Mesa last weekend. He finished the game with six tackles but recorded three sacks for a combined 21 yards and a forced fumble for the ThunderWolves. His strip sack against the CMU offense led to a touchdown that gave CSU Pueblo a 38-13 lead at halftime. While his defensive play was dominant, the redshirt junior also tacked on a two-point conversion, the first of his career, to add to the ThunderWolves’ lead.

Special Teams Player of the Week: Moosah Alsaffar | CSU Pueblo| R-Jr. | KR | Aurora, Colo.
Alsaffar turned the momentum of the game following his 96-yard kickoff return for a score late in the second quarter to give the Pack a 31-13 lead while marking the ThunderWolves second kickoff return for a score of the season. That return play is the longest of the season for CSU Pueblo and is the second longest kickoff return within the RMAC this year. Additionally, Alsaffar added a pair of tackles in the win over the Mavericks.
