COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Mesa’s Ben Sampson and Isaiah Cheeks are the Week Six Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, the league announced Wednesday.
 
Men’s Swimmer of the Week: Ben Sampson, Colorado Mesa – R-Jr. – Arvada, Colo.
Sampson broke his own school record in five different individual events and eight total events as the Mavericks dominated the prestigious TYR/CMU Invitational last weekend. The redshirt junior won six events throughout the meet, setting five pool records and five meet records in the process. He also set NCAA “A” cut times in three individual events and “B” cut times in seven others, including three relays. His altitude-adjust times in the 100-yard backstroke (45.80), 200-yard backstroke (1:39.63), 200-yard individual medley (1:42.04), 400-yard individual medley (3:44.00), 200-yard freestyle (1:35.42) and 800-yard freestyle relay sit at the top of NCAA Division II this season. Sampson scored 60 points on his own, ranking fourth among all swimmers at the meet to help the Mavericks tally more points combined than second-place Division I Wyoming and RMAC foe Colorado School of Mines.

Men’s Diver of the Week: Isaiah Cheeks, Colorado Mesa – R-Sr. – Aurora, Colo. 
Cheeks set pool and meet records in both diving disciplines and took down a school record as he shined at the TYR/CMU Invitational in Grand Junction. In Thursday’s 1-meter competition, Cheeks scored 629.15 points on 11 dives in the preliminaries, breaking a three-year-old pool and meet record held by six-time National Champion Ammar Hassan. Cheeks took the gold in that event with 592.20 points while also winning the 3-meter dive with a score of 608.80 points. The latter score also broke the pool and meet records, while setting a mark that is the best in Division II this season.
