Alejandro Rama and Isaiah Thompson Claim RMAC Men’s Basketball Weekly Honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – South Dakota Mines’ Alejandro Rama and Colorado State University Pueblo’s Isaiah Thompson are the Week 13 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Players of the Week, the league announced Monday.
 
Rama claims his first Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season after leading the Hardrockers (8-16, 7-11 RMAC) to a pair of road victories last weekend. The junior registered seven rebounds and a game-high 29 points while shooting 10-for-18 from the field and 5-for-6 from the free throw line in Friday’s 86-76 win over Regis. He then recorded his first double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds in Saturday’s 78-67 victory over University of Colorado Colorado Springs.
 
South Dakota Mines will now host its final two home games of the season, starting with Adams State on Friday, Feb. 17, in Rapid City, S.D. Tipoff between the Hardrockers and Grizzlies is set for 7:30 p.m. MT inside the King Center.
 
Thompson earns the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week honor for the first time this season after leading the ThunderWolves (11-13, 7-11 RMAC) to a split last weekend. The sophomore registered a double-double with 17 points and 16 rebounds in Friday’s 58-44 victory over Colorado Christian. He then tallied 18 points and 13 rebounds for his ninth double-double of the season, while also recording eight assists, in Saturday’s 89-85 overtime loss against Chadron State.   
 
The ThunderWolves will now head to Salt Lake City, Utah, to begin their final road trip of the season against Westminster on Friday, Feb. 17. Tipoff between the Pack and the Griffins is slated for 7 p.m.
 
Each RMAC contest will be broadcast on the RMAC Network.
 
Offensive Player of the Week: Alejandro Rama, South Dakota Mines – Jr. – G – Pine Ridge, S.D  
Rama had an impressive weekend guiding the Hardrockers to an unbeaten stretch on the road over the Rangers and Mountain Lions. The Pine Ridge, S.D., native averaged 23 points on 48.4 percent field-goal shooting while registering 8.5 rebounds per game last weekend.

Defensive Player of the Week: Isaiah Thompson, CSU Pueblo– So. – F – Colorado Springs, Colo.
Thompson led the defensive efforts for the ThunderWolves last weekend collecting 29 rebounds, 26 on the defensive glass, to go along with two blocked shots and one steal. The sophomore also averaged a double-double with 17.5 points and 14.5 rebounds per game last weekend. Thompson currently leads the RMAC in rebounds per game (9.5) and defensive rebounds per game (7.8) this season.
