Ben Sampson Named RMAC Men’s Swimming and Diving Academic Athlete of the Year
2022-23 RMAC Men’s Swimming and Diving All-Academic Release
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Mesa’s Ben Sampson is the 2022-23 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s Swimming and Diving Academic Athlete of the Year, the league announced Thursday alongside its all-academic first team roster. RMAC All-Academic teams are voted on by the league’s sports information directors. Sports information directors are not permitted to vote for their student-athletes.
Sampson earns the league’s Men’s Academic Athlete of the Year honor as a redshirt sophomore with a 3.88 grade-point average in his sports management program. The Arvada, Colo., native concluded the 2023 RMAC Swimming and Diving Championships with an impressive 80 points to help the Mavericks earn their fifth consecutive conference title, this time by a men’s meet record of 1,183 points. Sampson will now turn his attention to the NCAA postseason where he will compete at the 2023 NCAA Division II Swimming Championship.
In addition to Sampson, nine student-athletes were recognized on the RMAC All-Academic First Team with Colorado Mesa and Colorado School of Mines leading the way with four selections apiece. Oklahoma Christian and University of Texas Permian Basin round out the first-team roster with one honoree each.
To qualify for RMAC All-Academic first team, student-athletes must carry a minimum 3.50 cumulative GPA through the most recently completed term. Qualifiers must also have been a student at their respective institution for at least two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters and must use a season of competition.
Student-athletes that were not voted to the RMAC All-Academic First Team are recognized on the league’s Academic Honor Roll.
