Blaise Threatt and Kai Barr Claim Season’s Final RMAC Men’s Basketball Weekly Honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Mesa’s Blaise Threatt and Colorado School of Mines’ Kai Barr are the season’s final Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Players of the Week, the league announced Monday.
 
Threatt claims his second Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season after leading No. 14 Colorado Mesa (24-4, 19-3 RMAC) to an unbeaten week that secured the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament for the Mavericks. The redshirt sophomore registered 24 points on 7-of-12 shooting, in addition to a 7-for-8 clip from the free-throw line, and dished out five assists in Wednesday’s 92-68 win over Westminster. Threatt then recorded 25 points with a 10-for-17 outing from the field to go along with nine rebounds in Thursday’s 83-67 victory over Western Colorado.
 
Colorado Mesa will host the No. 8 seed Metropolitan State University of Denver in the quarterfinals of the RMAC Tournament, which begin on Tuesday, Feb. 28. Tipoff between the Roadrunners and the Mavericks is slated for 7 p.m. MT inside Brownson Arena in Grand Junction, Colo.
 
Barr earns the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week honor for the first time this season after the No. 15  Orediggers’ (24-4, 18-4 RMAC) pair of wins last week. The Pottsboro, Texas, native registered 12 points and 12 rebounds, nine off the defensive glass, in Friday’s 92-60 win over Adams State. Barr then tallied eight rebounds and six points in Saturday’s impressive 74-60 victory over No. 5 Fort Lewis.
 
Mines earned the No. 4 seed in the upcoming RMAC Tournament and will host No. 5 Chadron State in a quarterfinal matchup on Tuesday, Feb. 28., beginning at 7:30 p.m. inside Lockridge Arena in Golden, Colo.
 
All RMAC Tournament games will be broadcasted on the RMAC Network.
 
Offensive Player of the Week: Blaise Threatt, Colorado Mesa – R-So. – G – Scottsdale, Ariz.   
Threatt dominated the court in the Mavericks’ pair of wins over the Griffins and Mountaineers to close out the regular season. The Scottsdale, Ariz., native averaged 24.5 points on 58.6-percent field-goal shooting. Threatt currently ranks fifth in the league in points per game (18.9) and seventh in field goal percentage (53.6).

Defensive Player of the Week: Kai Barr, Colorado School of Mines – R-Jr.– F – Pottsboro, Texas  
Barr led the defensive efforts for the Orediggers last weekend collecting 20 rebounds in total, 14 of which came on the defensive end. Additionally, the redshirt junior also helped Mines offensively with a 63.6-percent field-goal average with a 7-for-11 shooting clip on the week. Throughout the regular season, Barr has registered 30 blocked shots and 106 defensive rebounds.
