GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The 2023 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships are set to begin Tuesday, Feb. 7, inside El Pomar Natatorium in Grand Junction, Colo. Colorado Mesa is set to host the five-day championship event and will aim to defend its men’s and women’s team titles from the 2022 championships.
Heading into the week, a trio of RMAC men’s programs stand ranked among the nation’s top 25, including No. 4 Colorado Mesa, No. 10 Oklahoma Christian and No. 13 Colorado School of Mines, according to the latest College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) poll. The Mavericks were selected to finish first overall in the RMAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll and will have a sizable squad to do so. Colorado Mesa is on the hunt for its fifth consecutive RMAC title after claiming last year’s championship with 1,225 points.
There is a slightly new look to the field at this year’s men’s championship as University of Texas Permian Basin joins the mix against Adams State, CMU, Colorado School of Mines and Oklahoma Christian.
On the women’s side of competition, Colorado Mesa is the lone nationally-ranked program, entering the week as the nation’s No. 2 team, receiving a trio of first-place votes. CMU enters the week as the four-time reigning champion, most recently earning the hardware at the 2022 event with 1,323 points, the most in RMAC Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship history. Colorado Mesa entered the 2022-23 women’s season as the favorite in the RMAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
Joining Colorado Mesa in the women’s field is Adams State, Colorado School of Mines, Colorado State University Pueblo, Nebraska-Kearney, Oklahoma Christian, University of Texas Permian Basin and Western Colorado.
The 2023 RMAC Championship is set to get underway Tuesday evening with the 800-yard freestyle relay finals events, which begin with the women’s race at 6 p.m., followed by the men’s competition shortly after.
Spectators are encouraged to attend the 2023 RMAC Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships and can purchase tickets online. Tickets are available for purchase on a daily basis or through five-day passes. Adult daily general admission can be purchased for $10 and children/students/seniors may purchase daily general admission for $5. Adult five-day passes may be purchased for $35 and children/students/seniors’ five-day passes are set at $17.
Those unable to attend the event will still be able to catch all of the action on the
RMAC Network, which will broadcast all five days of competition.
