RMAC Swimming and Diving Championships Produce NCAA Standards

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Day two of the 2023 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships is in the books and Colorado Mesa has grabbed hold of the first-place position in both of the men’s and women’s standings. The Mavericks hold a comfortable lead in the women’s table with 334 points, while the CMU men lead the way with 317 points.
 
Of Wednesday’s four women’s finals events, Colorado Mesa captured first place in all four competitions, including a double-gold medal performance from Izzy Powers and Logan Anderson, who tied for first place with matching 23.64 marks in the 50-yard freestyle. The Mavericks also secured a meet record in the 200-yard medley relay after Lauren White, Lily Borgenheimer, Kiara Borchardt and Ruby Bottai combined for a 1:41.74 (altitude-adjusted).
 
The Colorado School of Mines women’s team produced a pair of top-three individual performances, joining a third-place finish by the Orediggers in the 200 medley relay to close the day. Oklahoma Christian captured a second-place performance in the 200 medley relay on the shoulders of Vivian Pitsch, Hailey Uhrig, Kara Boemio and Olivia Rollen, who combined for a 1:44.46.
 
Oklahoma Christian led the way in Wednesday’s men’s competition with three gold medals. Victor Rosado claimed first place in the 1,000 freestyle with a NCAA Division II A standard time of 9:15.85, while Brandon Heredia led the way in the 50 freestyle with a NCAA DII B standard time of 19.86. The Eagles also topped the podium in the 200 medley relay behind a 1:27.41 from Dereck Montgomery, JT Amrein, Rosado and Felix Berling.
 
Ben Sampson and Isaiah Cheeks earned Colorado Mesa’s two men’s gold medals in the 200-yard individual medley and the 3-meter dive, respectively. Mines secured top-three performances from Garrett Waite in the 200 individual medley and the 200 medley relay squad of Sam LaPrade, Waite, Seth Krause and Jakson Winn.
 
University of Texas Permian Basin claimed silver and bronze medals in the 3m diving competition from Matthew Lenzo and Carter Wood, respectively, to go along with a third-place performance from the 200 medley relay team of Dan Bednarski, Axel Torres Hecker, Szymon Gilzynski and Zach Jones.
 
The 2023 RMAC Swimming and Diving Championships continue with day three, beginning at 9 a.m. MT on Thursday, Feb. 9, inside El Pomar Natatorium on the Colorado Mesa campus in Grand Junction, Colo. Each day of the RMAC Championships will be broadcast on the RMAC Network.
