Joel Scott Named D2CCA Ron Lenz National Player of the Year
2022-23 D2CCA Men’s Basketball All-America Rosters
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Falling in line with a prolific season, Black Hills State’s Joel Scott is the 2022-23 Division II Conference Commissioner’s Association (D2CCA) Men’s Basketball Ron Lenz National Player of the Year. Scott joins Fort Lewis’ Akuel Kot on the organization’s All-America rosters as first and second-team honorees, respectively.
Scott earned the Ron Lenz Player of the Year honor and a first-team nod after leading his team to the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Final Four for the second consecutive season. The senior’s season continues after a dominant 86-68 win over Minnesota-Duluth in the Elite Eight round where Scott employed 23 points, five rebounds, three assists and three blocks to lead the Yellow Jackets. For the season, the Monument, Colo., native averages 22.8 points and 9.5 rebounds per game and plays 33.1 minutes per contest. Scott has compiled 15 double-doubles this season and is currently averaging 23.5 points and 11.2 rebounds per game this postseason.
Kot claimed a position on the second team following an incredible season where he averaged 24.3 points per game for the Skyhawks. He finished the season shooting 51.7 percent from the field and 39.3 percent from three-point range. Kot also leads the nation with 801 points and stands as the only player in NCAA DII to eclipse 800 points this season and did so in 33 games. The Amarillo, Texas, native led Fort Lewis to a program-best 29-4 overall record, the No. 2 seed at the RMAC Tournament and the No. 2 seed at the NCAA DII South Central Championship.
The D2CCA encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
