Caira Lessick, Lily Ferguson Named Women’s Lacrosse Players of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado State University Pueblo’s Caira Lessick and Regis’ Lily Ferguson are the Week Five Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women’s Lacrosse Players of the Week, the league announced Monday.
 
Lessick claims Offensive Player of the Week honors for the first time this season after leading the ThunderWolves (1-5, 0-2 RMAC) to a non-conference road split last week. The senior midfielder opened with five goals and one assist for six points in the Pack’s 21-5 win over Erskine on Tuesday. She then nabbed three points on two goals and one assist in Wednesday’s setback against Catawba. Lessick closed the week with nine points on seven goals and two assists after landing seven of her eight shots on frame for a .875 shots-on-goal percentage.
 
CSU Pueblo will now return home for its conference opener against No. 3 Regis on Friday, March 31. Opening faceoff against the Rangers is slated for 4 p.m. MT at Art and Lorraine Gonzales Stadium in Pueblo, Colo.
 
Ferguson locks up her second RMAC weekly honor of the season, this time earning Defensive Player of the Week, after bolstering the Rangers’ (7-0, 1-0 RMAC) backline in a 15-7 win in their conference opener against University of Colorado Colorado Springs last week. The junior put in her work from the midfield and claimed four ground balls and four draw controls. She also forced four turnovers for Regis and added in one goal and two assists on the offensive end of the field.
 
Regis will now turn its attention to RMAC play and will travel to Pueblo to take on the ThunderWolves on Friday, followed by a tilt against Fort Lewis on Sunday, April 2.
 
Offensive Player of the Week: Caira Lessick, CSU Pueblo – Sr. – M – Oregon City, Ore.
In CSU Pueblo's two games in the Carolinas last week, Lessick racked up seven goals and added two assists for nine points. She also took eight shots, seven of which landed on target, and registered four ground balls and 11 draw controls on the week. Lessick opened with five goals on five shots to go along with an assist in a 21-5 win over Erskine. Against Catawba, the senior notched two goals and one assist to go along with four ground balls and eight draw controls.

Defensive Player of the Week: Lily Ferguson, Regis – Jr. – M – Maple Ridge, British Columbia
Ferguson set season-high efforts in caused turnovers (4) and ground balls (4) for the Rangers in their lone contest last week. The midfielder also added four draw controls, one goal and two assists in the No. 3 ranked Rangers' 15-7 win over UCCS.
