Tanner Garner and David Craig Claim Week Eight RMAC Baseball Honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Metropolitan State University of Denver’s Tanner Garner and Colorado Mesa’s David Craig are the Week Eight Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, the league announced Tuesday.
 
Garner claims his first RMAC Player of the Week honor of the season after leading the Roadrunners (22-8, 7-5 RMAC) to a 3-1 record over Regis last weekend. The outfielder hit for a .550 batting average (11-for-17) with 12 RBI and six extra-base hits for a 1.541 OPS. Defensively, Garner controlled centerfield while collecting 13 putouts for the Roadrunners.
 
The Roadrunners will now play a four-game series against Colorado State University Pueblo starting Friday, March 31, in Denver, Colo. First pitch between the Roadrunners and ThunderWolves is slated for 3 p.m. MT at Assembly Athletic Complex.
 
Craig earns his first RMAC Pitcher of the Week distinction of the season after throwing a six-inning shutout for the Mavericks (20-7, 11-1 RMAC) last weekend. The sophomore improved to 3-0 on the season after allowing just four hits and three walks while striking out five batters in his first start.
 
The Mavericks will now return home to face Regis in a four-game set starting on Friday, March 31. Opening pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. at The Diamond in Grand Junction, Colo.
 
All conference matchups will be broadcast on the RMAC Network.
 
Player of the Week: Tanner Garner, MSU Denver – Sr. – OF – Broomfield, Colo.
Garner was an offensive force for the Roadrunners during their 3-1 weekend over the Rangers and racked up 11 hits on 17 plate appearances. The senior tied the RMAC single-game record with nine RBI on one home run and two doubles in Thursday’s marathon 27-21 win. In game one of Friday’s doubleheader, Garner went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI in an impressive 18-4 victory. In the nightcap, Garner contributed to the 17-12 victory with one double and one run scored. The Broomfield, Colo., native went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI in the series finale. Garner currently leads the conference with a .481 batting average and ranks third in the league in doubles (14).

Pitcher of the Week: David Craig, Colorado Mesa – So. – RHP – Highlands Ranch, Colo.
Craig was one of two pitchers the Mavs used in Sunday’s combined complete-game shutout, a 15-0 run-rule win over Colorado Christian. The Highlands Ranch, Colo., native held the Cougars to a .222 batting average and registered a season-high five strikeouts.
