Kate Hedlund and Hannah Miller Named RMAC Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs’ Kate Hedlund and Colorado School of Mines’ Hannah Miller are the Week Two Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, the league announced Wednesday. Both competed at the CSU Pueblo Spank Blasing Invitational over the weekend in Pueblo, Colo.
Hedlund clocked a second-place finish in the 1,500-meter event and a fifth-place finish in the 800m last weekend. She started the meet with the 1,500m race where she battled 45 competitors to finish with an altitude-adjusted time of 4:28.61. Among the loaded field were 21 NCAA Division I athletes, whom Hedlund raced past for her NCAA DII provision time. In the 800m competition, the junior crossed the finish line at 2:15.54, claiming fifth place out of 27 runners.
The Mountain Lions will now return to Pueblo, Colo., for the CSU Pueblo Open, a two-day event, which begins on Friday, March 31 at the CSU Pueblo ThunderBowl.
Miller opened her outdoor pole vault slate with a share of first place after clearing the bar for a 3.94m (12-11 ft) effort. The senior tied with a DI competitor from Colorado State but bested 15 competitors including seven DI athletes. Her latest effort is an NCAA DII provisional time and is fifth on the current NCAA DII performance list.
The Orediggers will now travel to Stanford, Calif., to compete in the Stanford Invitational, which begins on Friday, March 31.
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week: Kate Hedlund, UCCS – Jr. – Manchester, Conn.
Hedlund claims the Women’s Track Athlete of the Week honor after two impressive performances in the 800m and 1,500m events last weekend. In the 1,500m, Hedlund placed third with a time of 4:28.61, which currently ranks fourth on the latest NCAA DII performance list. The Manchester, Conn., native now ranks fifth in the RMAC after her efforts in the 800m race last weekend where she led four Mountain Lions within the top 20 finishers.

Women’s Field Athlete of the Week: Hannah Miller, Colorado School of Mines – Sr. – Cypress, Texas
Miller earns the Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honor after tying for first place in the pole vault event last weekend with an effort of 3.94m. The Cypress, Texas, native passed on the first six heights before clearing her winning mark on her first attempt. The effort placed Miller fifth on the latest NCAA DII performance list and currently stands first in the conference in the pole vault this outdoor season.
