Julian Boyd and Eric Cox Claim Week Five RMAC Baseball Honors
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Mesa’s Julian Boyd and Metropolitan State University of Denver’s Eric Cox are the Week Five Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Baseball Players of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.
Boyd claims his first Player of the Week honor of the season after leading the Mavericks (9-6) to a series win over Montana State University Billings at home last weekend. The senior registered a .583 batting average (7-for-12) with a 2.100 OPS, including a 1.417 slugging percentage. Among his seven hits against the Yellowjackets, he collected seven RBIs and five extra-base hits. He also stole two bags and walked four times.
Colorado Mesa will now open its conference play schedule at home with a four-game set against MSU Denver beginning Friday, March 10. The first pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m. MT at The Diamond in Grand Junction, Colo.
Cox earns his first Pitcher of the Week distinction of the season after breaking the conference all-time save record in two appearances for the Roadrunners (15-3) last week. The senior now holds the record by earning the 23rd and 24th saves of his career, the record of 23 saves had been held since 1999 by Nate Field of former RMAC member Fort Hayes State. Cox allowed one hit and one walk while he struck out five batters in 2.2 innings.
The Roadrunners will now start RMAC play on the road as they head to Colorado Mesa for a four-game series.

RMAC Network.
Player of the Week: Julian Boyd, Colorado Mesa – Sr. – OF– Los Angeles, Calif.
Boyd was an offensive spark for the Mavericks during their 3-1 weekend over MSU Billings. The outfielder went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in the second inning in Thursday’s explosive 19-8 win over the Yellowjackets. During game one of Friday’s doubleheader, Boyd went 3-for-4 including a double, triple and a homerun making him a single shy of the cycle with two RBIs in the 16-6 victory. In the nightcap, the senior had two sacrifice hits and one RBI in the Mavs’ 5-4 win. In the series finale, the Los Angeles, Calif., native went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a double in the Mavericks’ lone loss of the weekend.

Cox was lights out for the Roadrunners this weekend as he collected two saves against Regis and Colorado School of Mines. Against the Rangers, the closer came into the game with the go-ahead run at the plate and did not allow a run to cross home in Thursday’s 13-6 win. On Saturday, Cox collected the four-out save as he came in with the bases loaded in the eighth inning and struck out the batter to get out of the jam leading to an 11-6 win for the Roadrunners on Saturday.
