AJ Switzer and Jake Eickelman Collect RMAC Men’s Lacrosse Weekly Honors
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Mesa’s AJ Switzer and Jake Eickelman are the Week Eight Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s Lacrosse Players of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Switzer earns his second consecutive Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season after collecting four goals in the Mavericks’ (9-2, 1-0 RMAC) lone game last weekend. The redshirt junior was efficient with a season-high four goals on seven shots for a 57-percent shooting average and paired that feat with five assists to close the weekend with nine points.
Eickelman claims Defensive Player of the Week honors after leading the Mavericks’ defense in a 23-8 victory over Westminster to open conference play. The redshirt junior collected seven ground balls and caused four turnovers while contributing offensively with an unassisted goal.
The Mavericks will now continue conference play on the road in Alamosa, Colo., against Adams State on Friday, April 14. The opening faceoff is set for 3 p.m. MT on ASU Lacrosse Field and will be broadcast on the RMAC Network.
Offensive Player of the Week: AJ Switzer, Colorado Mesa – R-Jr. – A/M – Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.
Switzer collected his third hat trick of the season in the Mavericks’ conference opener against Westminster last weekend. In CMU’s 23-8 victory, Switzer scored his first two goals in the second quarter, one minute apart, boosting the Mavericks to seven unanswered first-half goals. The Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., native then dished out a pair of goals to close out the third quarter and cap off an impressive performance with four goals and five assists throughout the game.

Defensive Player of the Week: Jake Eickelman, Colorado Mesa – R-Jr. – D – Littleton, Colo.
Eickelman registered a game-high seven ground balls and caused four turnovers in Saturday’s victory over the Griffins. The Littleton, Colo., native also scored one goal for the Maverick, the second goal of his collegiate career. Eickelman currently ranks second in the conference with 13 caused turnovers this season.
