COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The 2023 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Major Awards and All-Conference rosters were announced Monday, with four representatives from four different schools headlining the league’s individual honors. Adam State’s Miguel Coca claims RMAC Men’s Track Athlete of the Year, while Colorado Mesa’s Dawson Heide earns Men’s Field Athlete of the Year. Western Colorado’s Tyler Nord is the conference’s Men’s Freshman of the Year, while University of Colorado Colorado Springs’ Ross Fellows is the Men’s Coach of the Year.

Coca claims the league’s track honor after closing the outdoor season ranked first in the nation in the 1,5000-meter race with an altitude-adjusted time of 3:40.96 at the CSU Pueblo Open (Mar.31). The senior needed just four appearances this outdoor season to cement a spot in the 1,5000m and  5k  races at the upcoming 2022 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Coca earned his provisional time in the 5k with his 13:36.51 performance at the 2023 Bryan Clay Invitational, which ranks third in the nation. His provisional time of 3:41.04 in the 1,500m was accomplished at the Oregon Twilight, while his third provisional time of 1:50.38 in the 800m came at the Portland Twilight.

Heide earns RMAC Field Athlete of the Year after earning four top-five finishes at the RMAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships including a fourth-place finish in the javelin throw. In addition to his fourth-place finish in the javelin throw, Heide also registered two more fourth-place efforts in the 110m hurdles and was a part of the Mavericks 4x400m relay team. The junior holds an NCAA DII provisional mark in the decathlon with 7,207 points, which he earned at the Mavericks Invite earlier this season.

Nord nabs the league’s Freshman of the Year award after closing the book on an impressive 2023 campaign for the Mountaineers. Nord made an immediate impact on Western Colorado’s distance squad earning an all-conference nod in the 1,500m event at the the RMAC Outdoor Championships. He secured a personal best with an altitude-adjusted time of 3:44.83 at the CSU Pueblo Open, which ranks 14th on this season’s NCAA DII performance list.

UCCS head coach Ross Fellows was named the RMAC Men’s Coach of the Year, after leading his team to their third consecutive RMAC Outdoor Championship. Fellows has led the UCCS men to a No. 18 national ranking ahead of the 2022 NCAA DII Outdoor Championships. He will be sending multiple athletes from his men’s program to partake in the national meet, which will be hosted in Pueblo, Colo., beginning Thursday, May 25.
