2023 Men's Outdoor Track & Field All-Academic Release
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado School of Mines’ Dillon Powell is the 2023 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Academic Athlete of the Year, the league announced Monday. In addition to his honor, Powell is joined by nine other student-athletes on the conference’s Men’s All-Academic First Team. RMAC All-Academic teams are voted on by the league’s sports information directors. Sports information directors are not permitted to vote for their student-athletes.
Powell earns the RMAC Men’s Outdoor Track and Field academic honor with a 3.87 grade-point average as a senior chemical engineering student. The senior has put together an impressive track and field season already with the opportunity to continue his success at the 2023 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships, for which he qualified for the 5,000-meter and 10,000m events. Heading into nationals, the senior holds the nation’s best time in the 5,000m run (13:30.93) and is ranked sixth in the 10,000m with a altitude-adjusted time of 29:02.02.
Joining Powell on the all-academic first team is fellow Mines teammates Everette Delate, Duncan Fuehne, Hunter Potrykus and Loic Scomparin. Chadron State's Shane Collins and Colorado Mesa's Justin Thompson hold the only 4.0 GPAs. University of Colorado Colorado Springs earns a pair of honorees of its own in Thorben Hast and Skye Ciccarelli, while Colorado Christian’s Isaac Russo round out the first-team roster.
