RMAC Softball Tournament Gets Underway Thursday in Lakewood

LAKEWOOD, Colo. – The 2023 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Softball Tournament kicks off Thursday, May 4, at All Star Park in Lakewood, Colo. Colorado Christian will serve as the tournament host and the No. 1 seed after claiming the 2023 RMAC regular-season title with a 42-2 record in conference play. The RMAC Softball Tournament will be played over three days and feature the league’s top-six seeds. Metropolitan State University of Denver will be the No. 2 seed, followed by No. 3 Regis, No. 4 Colorado Mesa, No. 5 Colorado School of Mines and No. 6 Chadron State.
 
Thursday’s action will consist of four games beginning at 9 a.m. MT, followed by contests at 11:30 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Colorado Mesa and Colorado School of Mines will square off in Thursday’s opening matchup, followed by Regis versus Chadron State in game two. Colorado Christian will take on the winner between the Mavericks and Orediggers in game three, followed by game four featuring the Roadrunners against the winner of the Rangers and Eagles.
 
Friday’s action begins with a pair of elimination games at 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., starting with the game five showdown between the losing team of game two and the losing team of game three. Game six will be comprised of the losing team of game one against the losing team of game four. Game seven will feature a pair of unbeaten teams, the winner of game three against the winner of game four, starting at 2 p.m. Friday’s final contest, game eight, will consist of the winners from games five and six and will begin at 4:30 p.m.
 
Saturday’s action begins with game nine at 11 a.m. between the losing team of game seven and the winner of game eight to decide the challenger for the RMAC Tournament title. Game 10 will get underway Saturday at 1:30 p.m. with possible tournament title implications between the winners of games seven and nine. Should it be necessary, there will be one final game beginning at 4 p.m. to decide the RMAC Softball Tournament champion.
 
The Cougars enter the tournament as the top seed after claiming the regular-season title and a league-best nine all-conference selections to earn a first-round bye. MSU Denver will take advantage of its first-round bye after earning four all-conference selections and the tournament’s 2-seed with a 29-13 RMAC record. No. 3 seed Regis also earned four all-conference honorees and finished the regular season with a 28-16 conference mark.
 
Colorado Mesa enters postseason play as the 4-seed after finalizing RMAC action with a 26-15 record, while the Orediggers claim the 5-seed with a 24-16 league record. Chadron State rounds out the tournament field with a 25-19 conference record.
