Colorado Christian Wins Second Consecutive RMAC Tournament Title
LAKEWOOD, Colo. – No. 1 seed Colorado Christian claimed the 2023 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Softball Tournament Championship Saturday with an 8-3 win over fourth-seeded Colorado Mesa. The Mavericks earned a spot in the championship game following a 6-2 win against Metropolitan State University of Denver. Logan Menzies was the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

Game 9– #4 Colorado Mesa – 6, #2 MSU Denver – 2
Facing elimination, Miranda Pruitt gave the Mavericks the momentum they needed with a solo home run in the fourth inning, before Sarah Jorissen came through with a RBI single to give the Mavericks the lead. CMU then opened the flood gates in the sixth scoring four runs including a pair of RBI doubles from Illiana Mendoza and Ava Fugate. Hannah Sattler dominated in the circle giving up just two runs on seven hits.
Game 10– #4 Colorado Mesa– 3, #1 Colorado Christian– 8
The Cougars wasted no time after the Mavericks scored first to get back into the game as Savannah Tourville reached on a fielder’s choice which allowed Kayla Middleton to score. Logan Menzies then gave her squad the lead after hitting a grand slam to left center field. A pair of RBI singles then extended Colorado Christian’s lead to five. Tourville then gave her team an insurance run in the sixth via a solo shot to center field. Abrie Castillo registered her 21st win of the season after giving up just two earned runs on seven hits and one walk.
The Mavericks out hit the Cougars nine to seven, while scoring three runs including a solo homer from Brandi Haller in the fourth. Marisa Nehm and Hannah Sattler combined for 11 flyouts and seven groundouts in 78 pitches.
While Menzies headlined the 2023 Softball All-Tournament team, Savannah Tourville, Leah Garcia, Kali Crandall and Sami Edwards were also named to the roster. Colorado Mesa’s Pruitt, Sattler and Jorissen joined MSU Denver’s Jenna Medhus and Regis’ Kylie Harpman on the roster.
