2022-23 RMAC Brechler Award Winners Announced
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference announced the winners of the 2022-23 Brechler Awards on Wednesday. The league’s Brechler Awards recognize the league’s best team grade-point averages for each of its 21 NCAA-sponsored sports throughout the current academic year.
Leading the way among the conference’s 15 member institutions is Westminster with an impressive eight awards. The Griffins led the league in team GPAs for women’s cross country, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s lacrosse, men’s soccer and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field.
Colorado School of Mines and Western Colorado each garnered three Brechler Awards to finish the year in a tie for second place. Black Hills State, Colorado Christian, Colorado State University Pueblo and Regis each claimed two awards apiece to finish next on the list. Fort Lewis rounds out the list as the winner in women’s basketball with a team GPA of 3.57.
The Brechler Awards are named in honor of Paul W. Brechler, a former RMAC commissioner (1976-90), and his wife Wanda Brechler, who were the first inductees into the RMAC Hall of Fame. Each team's GPA is calculated by dividing the total quality points by the total number of credits for each semester. Team GPAs were submitted to the RMAC office by each institution’s compliance administrator.
