Colorado Christian Leads the Way in 2024 RMAC Softball Preseason Coaches’ Poll
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Christian leads the way in the 2024 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Softball Preseason Coaches’ Poll after earning 117 total points, the league announced Wednesday. The RMAC Softball preseason poll is voted on by the league’s 12 head coaches. Head coaches are not permitted to vote for their own program.
The Colorado Christian Cougars check in at No. 1 in the 2024 RMAC Softball Preseason Coaches’ Poll after recording 117 total points and a league-leading eight first-place votes. The Cougars enter the season after claiming each of the last two RMAC Tournament titles. Sami Edwards, Logan Menzies, Kayla Middleton and reigning RMAC Player of the Year, Kenzie Middleton return for the Cougars after leading Colorado Christian to a sweep of the regular-season and conference tournament championships last year. With a combined 47 home runs and 189 RBI throughout the 2023 campaign, the Cougars’ big four will aim to keep their team on the hunt for more hardware.
Metropolitan State University of Denver secures the No. 2 overall rank in the RMAC preseason poll after earning 108 total points and two first-place votes. Despite falling in the semifinal round of last year’s RMAC Tournament, the Roadrunners check into the 2024 season with a wealth of experience on their side and a statement to make. Led by head coach Annie Van Wetzinga, MSU Denver is sure to utilize its impressive depth to contend for the league’s regular-season crown.
The Mavericks occupy the No. 3 spot in the preseason poll with 107 total points and the league’s final two first-place votes. Colorado Mesa has a proven ability to contend late into the season, which was on full display after earning a berth in the RMAC Tournament title game. Led by head coach Mercedes Bohte (Lovato), the Mavs will continue to build upon the success experienced over the years.
Regis checks in at the No. 4 spot after closing the 2023 season with a 33-25 overall record and a 28-16 mark in conference play. After earning the No. 3 seed at last year’s conference tournament, the Rangers finished the 2023 campaign with a 2-2 record in the RMAC Softball Tournament. Colorado School of Mines earns the No. 5 position in preseason voting with 80 points, just ahead of University of Colorado Colorado Springs in sixth place with 61 points.
Colorado State University Pueblo stands in seventh in the preseason poll with 60 points, followed by Chadron State in eighth place with 57 points. Fort Lewis and New Mexico Highlands conclude preseason voting tied for ninth place with 37 points apiece, while Adams State and Black Hills State round out the preseason poll tied for 11th place with 18 points for each program.
The 2024 RMAC Softball season will begin on Friday, Feb. 2, while conference play gets underway on Saturday, Feb. 17, with all 12 programs in action. All roads lead to the 2024 RMAC Softball Tournament, which is scheduled for May 2-4 at the institutional site of the RMAC’s regular-season champion.
