Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Mesa’s Ben Sampson and Isaiah Cheeks are the Week Nine Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, the league announced Wednesday.
 
Men’s Swimmer of the Week: Ben Sampson | Colorado Mesa | R-Jr. | Arvada, Colo.
Sampson continued his impressive season at the BYU Tri Meet this weekend against Division I competition, claiming two individual wins and four runner-up finishes. The Mavs finished as runners-up against host BYU and in-state rival Air Force, which CMU has now defeated twice this season. Sampson secured gold medals in the 200-yard backstroke (1:49.35) and the 400-yard individual medley, while receiving silver in the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard backstroke events. The redshirt junior also contributed to two additional second-place finishes, swimming legs on the 400-yard medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay. Sampson finished with 58 points scored for CMU in his individual events, which was the most points accumulated by a single male swimmer at the meet.

Men’s Diver of the Week: Isaiah Cheeks | Colorado Mesa | R-Sr. | Aurora, Colo.
Cheeks surpassed the NCAA pre-championship qualifying standards once again in both diving disciplines, placing third on the 1-meter and fifth on the 3-meter at the BYU Tri-Meet. The redshirt senior defeated 15 total Division I divers to contribute points to the Mavericks’ second place finish. Cheeks scored 288.35 points over six dives in the 1-meter event, while racking up 310.00 total points on the 3-meter board.
