Owen Koonce and KJ Garrett Earn Week Seven RMAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week Honors
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Mesa’s (11-2, 7-0 RMAC) Owen Koonce and Metropolitan State University of Denver’s (9-3, 3-3 RMAC) KJ Garrett are the Week Seven Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Players of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Offensive Player of the Week: Owen Koonce | Colorado Mesa | R-Jr. | F | Lafayette, Colo.
Koonce averaged 19 points on 52% shooting for the Mavericks in their last four games against West Texas A&M, Simon Fraser, CSU Pueblo and New Mexico Highlands. The Lafayette, Colo., native posted his best scoring effort of the season with 27 points on De. 19, against Simon Fraser. Over the four-game stretch, Koonce averaged 6.5 rebounds per game, tallied ten assists and shot 95% from the free throw line (18-for-19). Colorado Mesa is currently tied for first place in the RMAC with a perfect 7-0 record.

Defensive Player of the Week: KJ Garrett | MSU Denver | Jr. | G | High Point, N.C.
Garrett earns Week Seven Defensive Player of the Week honors after recording a career-high seven steals against Chadron State on Saturday. Garrett’s seven steals are tied for the most steals in a single game this season. Behind Garrett’s defense, the Roadrunners held Chadron State to 36.4% shooting and limited the Eagles’ leading scorer to 17 points. The junior managed to play exceptional defense without committing a single personal foul and led MSU Denver to an impressive 84-63 victory.
