Simon Fraser Named Preseason Favorite Ahead of 2024-25 RMAC Women’s Wrestling Season

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Simon Fraser enters the 2024-25 women’s wrestling season as the favorites in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference’s Preseason Coaches’ Poll, released Thursday, voted on by the league’s five head coaches, who were not permitted to vote for their own team.

Simon Fraser received 15 points and three first-place votes. The Red Leafs are led by head coach Justin Abdou, the reigning RMAC Coach of the Year, who guided his squad to the inaugural RMAC regular-season title. SFU is returning 18 student-athletes to the mat this season, with 2023-24 RMAC Women’s Wrestler of the Year, Jade Trolland, leading the group. Behind Abdou and Trolland, the Red Leafs hope to repeat as champions in 2024-25.

Colorado Mesa checks in at second in the preseason poll with 14 points and two first-place votes. The Mavericks are returning six All-Americans this year in Jennesis Martinez, Isabella Morales, Hailey Chapman, Erica Schroeder, Jayleen Sekona, and Isabeau Shalack. The Mavs are coming off a successful 2023-24 season, in which they saw six student-athletes reach the top of the podium at the inaugural RMAC Women’s Wrestling Championships.

Rounding out the 2024-25 RMAC Women’s Wrestling Preseason Coaches’ Poll were Chadron State, Adams State, and Texas Woman’s, who received seven points apiece and hope to make a splash in the upcoming season.
