Grizzlies Roar to 35th RMAC Women’s Cross Country Championship Title

Adams State claims fourth straight RMAC women’s title, 35th all-time in 43 editions

LAS VEGAS, N.M. – Ava O’Connor won the individual crown, leading Adams State to its 35th Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women’s Cross Country Championship at Gene Torres Golf Course on Saturday.

O’Connor finished the 5.8K course in 19:28.25, becoming the 32nd Grizzlies women’s runner to win the RMAC title and RMAC Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Year honors. Tristan Spence (4th, 19:45.14), Elena Carey (6th, 19:58.12), Precious Robinson (8th, 20:15.50), and Emily Schoellkopf (11th, 20:33.14) rounded out Adams State’s scoring effort. All eight ASU runners finished in the Top 25. Head coach Damon Martin claimed the league’s Coach of the Year honor.

CSU Pueblo, the nation’s No. 3 team, finished second in the women’s team race with 88 points, led by Helen Braybrooks’ ninth-place finish (20:27.35).

University of Colorado Colorado Springs, entering the race ranked fifth among RMAC teams and No. 11 nationally, used Anna Fauske’s third-place finish (19:38.78) to post a third-place finish in the RMAC Championship. The Mountain Lions also benefited from RMAC Freshman of the Year Madison Brosig, who finished 21st overall with a time of 21:09.17.

Now, the league’s squads look ahead to the NCAA Division II Women’s Cross Country South Central Regional Championships hosted by MSU Denver on November 9 at Washington Park in Denver, Colorado.
