Match Recaps

Match 4: #3 MSU Denver 2, #6 Westminster 1
DENVER  – Nicole Thompson put No. 3 seed MSU Denver out front early in the first half and a Westminster own goal provided much-needed insurance as the Roadrunners advanced to the RMAC Women's Soccer Championship semifinals with a 2-1 victory over the No. 6 seeded Griffins on Saturday at The Assembly Athletic Complex. MSU Denver scored the first half's only goal on a transition play and Nicole Thompson booted home a nifty pass in the box for the goal in the 15th minute. Neither team would score again until a Tessa Bretschneider cross was accidentally headed into goal by the Westminster defense, giving the hosts a 2-0 lead. Westminster would get on the board when Kim Hendrickson converted a penalty kick in the 67th minute, but the Griffins could not get another goal. MSU Denver goalkeeper Kylie Bach made four saves and allowed only the one goal in the win.

Match 2: ##4 UCCS 2, #5 Colorado Christian 1
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Brooke Pavlich's 39th minute goal stood up as the game-winning as No. 4 seed Univeristy of Colorado Colorado Springs defeated No. 5 seed Colorado Christian, 2-1, on Saturday at Mountain Lion Stadium. UCCS got on the board first as Casey Tedlock scored her season's first goal in the 24th minute. Colorado Christian tied the game in the 39th minute with Jessica Sims goal. However, the Mountain Lions needed only 39 seconds to regain the lead on Pavlich's score. From there, both defenses settled in as each team had only seven shots each in the second half, and only two shots on goal each.

Match 3: #7 Fort Lewis 0, #2 Colorado Mesa 0 (Fort Lewis advances on PKs, 8-7)
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – A scoreless affair through 110 minutes needed 11 shootout rounds to determine who would survive and advance and Fort Lewis did that with an 8-7 result against No. 2 seed Colorado Mesa on Monday night at Community Hospital Unity Field. Colorado Mesa had an opportunity to end the shootout in the fifth round but they missed the opportunity and Fort Lewis' McKenna Ford converted her chance to send the shootout into sudden victory. The next miss wouldn't come until 11th round when Colorado Mesa saw its chance saved by Skyhawks goalkeeper Katlyn Rosenbaum. Fort Lewis' Jenna Salazar stepped to the spot and drilled her shot down the middle and into the net, ending the match. Rosenbaum, the Skyhawks second half start in net, saved two shots over the final 65 minutes and outlasted her counterpart in the shootout.
