Mavericks advance to face Colorado School of Mines; MSU Denver falls to DBU

GOLDEN, Colo. – Facing a 1-0 deficit with less than 30 minutes remaining in regulation, No. 5 seed Colorado Mesa scored twice in under two minutes to stun No. 4 seed Midwestern State, 2-1, to highlight the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's day in the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship First Round on Saturday at Stermole Stadium. Meanwhile, No.6 seed MSU Denver saw its second half comeback fall short and fell 2-1 to No. 3 seed Dallas Baptist in San Angelo, Texas.

Colorado Mesa advances to the second round and faces No. 1 seed and RMAC champion Colorado School of Mines in a 3 p.m., Sunday match at Stermole Stadium. That match can be seen on the RMAC Network.

GOLDEN, Colo. – Facing a 1-0 deficit with less than 30 minutes remaining in regulation, No. 5 seed Colorado Mesa scored twice in under two minutes to stun No. 4 seed Midwestern State, 2-1, on Saturday at Stermole Stadium. After a scoreless first half, Midwestern State broke through in the 53rd minute on Lillia Besedin's shot from 30 yards out that deflected in off the CMU goalkeeper. It took 15 minutes for the Mavericks to respond, but they did so in rapid fire succession. Sarah Dunn tied the game with a left-footed finish of a cross from Maddie Thorsen in the 68th minute. Less than two minutes later, Sauvelyne Randel gave the Mavericks a 2-1 lead as she corraled Sarah DUnn's through ball and slid a shot past the goalkeeper in the 69th minute. The Colorado Mesa defense held Midwestern State to 17 shots and 10 corner kicks, but surrendered only three shots on goal.

#3 Dallas Baptist defeated #6 MSU Denver, 2-1

SAN ANGELO, Texas – No. 3 seed Dallas Baptist used an 88th minute goal to escape No. 6 seed MSU Denver's upset bid by claiming a 2-1 victory on Saturday at LeGrand Soccer Complex. Dallas Baptist got on the board early, scoring in the 8th minute on Anne Louthan's goal. That goal stood up until MSU Denver broke through in the 71st minute courtesy Brooklyn Gold's goal. Neither team could find the go-ahead marker until the 88th minute when Louthan scored to finish her brace and give DBU a 2-1 lead. MSU Denver outshot DBU, 11-10, with both teams putting five shots on goal.
