Chase Mayo Harmon and Alejandro Rama Named RMAC Men’s Basketball Players of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Regis’ (12-9, 9-6 RMAC) Chase Mayo Harmon and South Dakota Mines’ (9-11, 7-7 RMAC) Alejandro Rama are the Week 11 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Players of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Mayo Harmon claims the RMAC Offensive Player of the Week honor after a pair of impressive outings last weekend that led the Rangers to 2-0 weekend. The sophomore guard averaged 21.5 points per game in a pair of road wins over Colorado State University Pueblo and New Mexico Highlands. In his 34 minutes against the ThunderWolves, he drained 25 points on a sizzling 71 percent (10-for-14) field goal average, which included three makes on four attempts from beyond the arc, to pace the Rangers to an 81-67 win. He then accounted for 18 points on 75 percent shooting from the field in a 94-85 win over New Mexico Highlands on Saturday.
 
All told, Mayo Harmon concluded the weekend shooting 73 percent from the field, 57 percent from three-point range and knocked down 7 of his 10 free-throw attempts. He drained 16 of his 22 field goal attempts and did so while averaging 31.5 minutes of action per game. Mayo Harmon and the Rangers return to the hardwood on Friday, Feb. 9, at home against Colorado Mesa. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. MT, inside Regis Field House in Denver, Colo.

Defensive Player of the Week: Alejandro Rama | South Dakota Mines | Sr. | G | Pine Ridge, S.D.
Rama put the clamps on defensively for the Hardrockers over the weekend, leading his squad to a 1-1 outing along the way. The senior opened the weekend with five steal and 15 points, which were crucial in Wednesday’s 59-54 win over in-state rival Black Hills State. Against the Yellow Jackets, he finished the contest with six made field goals, a 75-percent average from the free throw line and four rebounds, three of which came off the defensive glass. On Saturday, he ripped another four steals and pulled down seven boards, six off the defensive glass, while adding 22 points on a 42-percent field goal average in a 76-70 setback at Chadron State.
 
For the weekend, Rama compiled 11 rebounds, nine defensively, nine steals and 37 points on 14-of-37 shooting. The Pine Ridge, S.D., native will now lead the Hardrockers back into action on Friday, Feb. 9, on the road against Metroplitan State University of Denver. Tipoff against the Roadrunners is scheduled for 7 p.m., inside Auraria Event Center in Denver, Colo.
