COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference announced its 2023-24 Men’s Indoor Track & Field Major Awards and All-Conference rosters on Wednesday. Highlighting the postseason distinctions are Colorado School of Mines’ Loic Scomparin and Colorado State University Pueblo’s Justin Jenks. The two earned RMAC Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Year and RMAC Indoor Field Athlete of the Year honors, respectively. Chadron State’s Chayton Bynes and Colorado Mesa’s Miller Jones claim the title of Co-Freshman of the Year, while Colorado Mesa’s head coach, Brad Gamble, earns the Men’s Coach of the Year award.

Loic Scomparin takes home the RMAC Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Year Award after an eventful season. Scomparin shined at the 2024 RMAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, claiming a victory in the 5000-meter and earning two second place finishes in the 3000m and Mile; his performance at the championships earned him the Men’s Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Meet honor. The junior made his mark in NCAA Division II history this season, as he crossed the finish line of the 5000m with a time of 13:29.35, the third fastest time in DII history. Scomparin was not done solidifying his name, as he also ran 3000m in a time of 7:46.11, the second fastest time in DII history. Behind Scomparin, the Orediggers hold the national rank of No. 6 in the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) rankings.

Justin Jenks claims the RMAC Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Year Award after a dominant performance at the 2024 RMAC Championships in Spearfish, S.D. Jenks left the championships with a pair of gold medals after winning the weight throw and shot put with marks of 19.55m and 18m, respectively. The senior led the ThunderWolves to a fourth-place finish at the championships with a total of 55 points. Currently, in shot put, Jenks has the fifth best mark in the nation with a throw of 18.34m.

Chayton Bynes and Miller Jones share the RMAC Men’s Indoor Freshman of the Year crown after both had impressive performances in their first year of collegiate competition. Bynes hit provisional qualifying marks in both the long jump and triple jump this year and placed second at the RMAC Championships in the triple jump. At the championships, Bynes recorded a triple jump mark of 15.09m which is the third best mark by a freshman in the nation this season. Jones took home the triple jump gold medal at the RMAC championships with a leap of 15.39m. At the Ninth Annual Indoor Gorilla Classic, the true freshman recorded a triple jump mark of 15.57m, the sixth best mark in the nation this season and the best mark by a freshman.

Brad Gamble takes home the RMAC Men’s Indoor Track & Field Coach of the Year Award after leading his team to a third-place finish at the RMAC Championships. The Mavericks recorded 106 total team points at the championships, setting a new program record. With Gamble at the helm, the Mavericks currently hold the 11th overall rank in NCAA Division II this season in the latest USTFCCCA rankings.

RMAC Indoor Track and Field Major Awards are voted on by the league’s head coaches. Coaches are not permitted to vote for themselves or their student-athletes. The league’s all-conference teams are determined by finishes at the RMAC Indoor Championships. The top-three finishers in each race are named first-team selections, while the fourth, fifth and sixth-place finishers are tabbed second-team selections. For relay events, the first-place team is named the first team and the second-place team is named the second team.
