ASU’s Gracie Hyde and Mines’ Lexye Wood Garner Week 5 RMAC Track & Field Athlete of the Week Honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Adams State’s Gracie Hyde and Colorado School of Mines’ Lexye Wood claim the Week Five Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors, respectively, the league announced Wednesday.
 
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week: Gracie Hyde | Adams State | Gr. | Benton, Ark.
Hyde roared into the NCAA Division II record books at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Thursday. The Benton, Ark., native broke the NCAA DII record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:28.17, beating out the previous mark by nearly 12 seconds. This mark not only leads all NCAA Division II competitors, but also all NCAA Division I competitors this year, qualifying her for the 2024 USA Track & Field Olympic Trials. The very same day, Hyde returned to break the NCAA DII record in the 1500m with a time of 4:08.95. Her mark in the 1500m ranks fifth on this season’s All-Collegiate list.

Women’s Field Athlete of the Week: Lexye Wood | Colorado School of Mines | Sr. | Parker, Colo.
Wood recorded the RMAC’s No. 1 and the NCAA DII’s No. 8 long jump of the season at the Maverick Invite #2 over the weekend. The Parker, Colo., native uncorked two jumps over six meters on the day. Her fifth attempt of 6.11m reset her personal record by four centimeters. Her performance in the long jump makes her the first woman in Oredigger history to complete a long jump over 20 feet, etching her name in Colorado School of Mines history.
