Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference

BOULDER CITY, Nev. – Colorado Christian got redemption and secured their first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s Golf Championship in program history. After losing the conference title in a team playoff one year ago, the Cougars got the job done in regulation, winning by nine strokes. Additionally, Adam Duncan finished 13-under over the three rounds to take home the individual championship.
 
Duncan led the way for Colorado Christian in the final round, despite Xavier Bighaus holding the lead after 36 holes. The junior from Bakersfield, Calif., was excellent and shot a four-under 68, one of only three golfers to do so on Tuesday. Duncan carded an eagle, a bogey and a double bogey on the front nine but was superb in his final nine holes, with four birdies down the stretch. He had 17 birdies in the three rounds, leading the field. Duncan sealed the deal with an eight-footer for par to clinch the individual title by two strokes. Bighaus joined Duncan in receiving medalist honors as he finished five-under on the tournament.
 
Colorado Mesa took home a runner-up finish and gave CCU every punch they had. The Mavericks hung around all three rounds and ultimately fell short. However, Dylan Everett finished solo third at seven-under par to also receive medalist recognition.
 
In the definition of “too little, too late,” Colorado State University Pueblo had one of the best final rounds in RMAC Tournament history. The ThunderWolves shot 10-under as a team and entered Tuesday’s round 23 strokes behind Colorado Christian. The Pack closed the gap to 16 strokes to stand alone in third place, mainly on the shoulders of Jeff Nelson and Jamie Roberts. Both men earned medalist honors, as Nelson finished second to Duncan and Roberts finished in sole possession of fourth place. Nelson held the individual lead for a good chunk of the final round, managing four birdies on the back nine alone.
 
Fort Lewis occupied fourth place, shooting exactly even par as a team. Westminster (+28), South Dakota Mines (+59) and Regis (+75) rounded out the 2024 standings.
 
Colorado Christian will continue their quest for national championship glory with the NCAA Division II West/South Central Regional Championships in Las Cruces, N.M. on Thursday, May 9. The other seven league institutions will await their fate for an at-large selection, announced on Friday, Apr. 26.
