COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The 2024 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women’s Lacrosse individual award winners and all-conference rosters were announced Wednesday. Colorado Mesa’s Justine Anderson and Kelsey Viger were named the league’s Attacker of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, respectively. Regis’ Bailey Truex was named the RMAC Midfielder of the Year, while her teammate, Elizabeth Myotte, was tabbed the league’s Goalie of the Year. University of Colorado Colorado Springs’ Sarah Urbanic was named the RMAC Freshman of the Year after an impressive debut season for the Mountain Lions. Regis head coach Sarah Kellner and Colorado State University Pueblo head coach Taylor Ward were voted RMAC Co-Coaches of the Year.
RMAC individual awards and all-conference rosters are nominated and voted on by the league’s six head coaches. Coaches are not permitted to vote for themselves or their student-athletes.
Anderson earns the Attacker of the Year title after leading the Mavericks with 51 goals throughout the regular season. The Colorado Springs, Colo., native powered Colorado Mesa to the No. 2 seed at the upcoming RMAC Women’s Lacrosse Tournament with 63 points throughout the 2024 campaign, with 44 of those points earned in conference play on 36 goals and eight assists. She is a consistent threat for the Mavs’ offense and holds a .481 shooting percentage heading into the postseason. In addition to a .717 shots-on-goal percentage for the year, she has also racked up 10 caused turnovers and 14 ground balls.
Truex claims Midfielder of the Year distinctions after leading the No. 6 Rangers’ midfield throughout her graduate campaign. She has played and started in all 17 of Regis’ games on the year and collected 50 goals and six assists along the way. In addition to hitting the half-century mark for goals scored, Truex has accomplished the feat in an efficient manner while taking 75 shots on the year, 61 of which have been placed on goal. While her .813 shots-on-goal percentage is nothing the scoff at, she also has a proven ability to dictate the pace of a game by forcing 15 turnovers to accompany 21 ground balls. The midfielder is a two-way player that also holds 45 draw controls.
For the second consecutive season, Viger earned RMAC Defensive Player of the Year after leading a Colorado Mesa defense that ranks second in the league and 24th nationally for goals allowed at 9.87 per game. Individually, the redshirt senior ranks first in the RMAC and seventh nationally with an astounding 2.85 caused turnovers per game. Entering the postseason, Viger leads the conference and ranks among the nation’s top 20 with 37 caused turnovers, doing so in just 13 appearances. While leading the Mavs’ defense, she has also found her way onto the Colorado Mesa attack and scored two goals.
Myotte is the RMAC Goalie of the Year after guarding the net for the nationally-ranked Rangers, who stand first in the RMAC and seventh nationally for goals allowed at 7.29 goals per game. The senior goaltender provided a larger-than-life presence between the pipes throughout the regular season and garnered a 6.46 goals-against average and a .487 save percentage. Through 13 starts and 16 appearances, Myotte collected 93 saves and 14-1 records on 263 shots faced.
Urbanic is the RMAC Freshman of the Year after providing a powerful punch off the bench for the Mountain Lions. The freshman has played in all 15 of UCCS’ games this season, including four starts, and found the net for 24 goals, which ranks third on the Mountain Lions’ roster. She also dished out four assists during the regular-season slate and boasts a .745 shots-on-goal percentage. The Carlsbad, Calif., product stands tied for first on the UCCS roster with two game-winning goals and becomes the second consecutive UCCS player to earn the league’s Freshman of the Year honor.
Regis head coach Sarah Kellner is once again a RMAC Coach of the Year after leading the No. 6 Rangers to a perfect 10-0 mark in conference play and a 16-1 record throughout the regular season. Ahead of the RMAC Tournament, the Rangers have dropped just one game, a setback to then No. 9 Maryville University (March 16). Since that loss, Regis has built a 12-game win streak, which includes a 19-13 win over then No. 12 University of Indianapolis (March 22).
CSU Pueblo’s Taylor Ward also claims a share of the RMAC Coach of the Year honor after returning to the helm for the ThunderWolves. Under her reign this season, the Pack claimed a second-team all-conference nod for Elise Magee. Under Ward’s leadership, the Pack closed regular-season competition with 335 ground balls per game as a team for a 23.93 average.
Of the 25 student-athletes named to the league’s all-conference rosters, Regis leads the way with nine honorees, seven first team and two second team. Colorado Mesa and Westminster check in at second with five selections apiece. UCCS accounted for a trio of honorees, followed by Fort Lewis with two all-conference members. CSU Pueblo rounds out the roster with one all-conference honoree.
Following regular-season play, the league’s top four teams will gear up for the 2024 RMAC Women’s Lacrosse Tournament, which begins Friday, May 3, at Regis Lacrosse Field in Denver, Colo. Top-seeded Regis will once again host the three-game tournament, which will open with semifinal action between the Rangers and No. 4 seed Westminster Friday at 4 p.m. MT. No. 2 seed Colorado Mesa and No. 3 seed UCCS will close out the semifinal round Friday at 7 p.m.
Winners of Friday’s semifinal contests will meet Sunday, May 5, at 2 p.m., for the RMAC Women’s Lacrosse Tournament Championship game.
