Greg Waggoner to be Inducted into NACDA Hall of Fame

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Greg Waggoner, a former Western Colorado Athletic Director and men’s wrestling coach, is slated to be honored among the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Hall of Fame class next week in Las Vegas, Nev. The former Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference administrator joins the 2024 class after an illustrious career leading the Mountaineers athletic department. The group of individuals recognized among the latest class of inductees will be honored in conjunction with the 59th Annual NACDA & Affiliates Convention at Mandalay Bay Resort at the beginning of the Association-Wide Featured Session on Monday, June 10, beginning at 4 p.m. local time.
 
Waggoner served as the athletics director at Western Colorado for 20 years, beginning in 1994. Throughout his tenure at the helm of the Mountaineers’ athletic department, Western Colorado captured an incredible 11 NCAA Division II team national championships and 71 individual national titles. Additionally, WCU athletic programs combined for 97 top-10 team finishes at NCAA championships, 32 conference championships and 575 individual All-Americans.
 
The Steamboat Springs, Colo., native led the Mountaineers to top-45 finishes in the LEARFIELD Directors’ Cup standings for 19 consecutive years, a feat that has only been achieved by four NCAA DII institutions. He served as a member of the NCAA Wrestling Committee from 2002-06 and completed his tenure with the group as the Chair of the DII Wrestling Committee during his final two years.
 
During his time leading Western Colorado athletics, Waggoner increased fundraising and revenue within the department, raising over $20 million while also overseeing another $37 million in facility developments. He was also equally instrumental in helping the Mountaineers gain national acclaim from a competition and diversity and equity standpoint.
 
Waggoner served on the NACDA Executive Committee from 2007-11 and led the D2ADA from 2010-12 as the organization’s President. Further, he was honored with the Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2022.
