COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado School of Mines junior Jakson Winn and Western Colorado University graduate student LynDea Turner are the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference’s Men’s and Women’s Swimmers of the Week, announced Wednesday.
Men’s Swimmer of the Week
Jakson Winn, Colorado School of Mines (Junior, Mercer Island, Washington)
Competing against Division I Wyoming last weekend, Winn won three events and finished second in another. He claimed an individual win in the 50 backstroke (24.39), where he’s ranked second in the RMAC this season. Winn also was the lead swimmer in the Orediggers 400-medley relay team which won in 3:25.67 after his opening leg of 50.52. He anchored the 400 freestyle relay group which also picked up a win in 3:07.03. Finally, he was the anchor leg of the Orediggers 200 freestyle relay unit which finished second with a 1:25.06, including his 21.04 finishing leg.
Honorable Mention: Mohamed Abujiba, Adams State.
Women’s Swimmer of the Week
LynDea Turner, Western Colorado (Graduate, Syracuse, Utah)
Turner won four events and scored 74 points and led Western Colorado to a win at the Colorado College Classic last weekend. She secured individual victories in the 100 backstroke (1:01.46) and 200 backstroke (2:13.06), while finishing second in the 200 individual medley (2:19.17) and the 400 individual medley (4:52.25). In relay action, Turner was a leadoff swimming on the Mountaineers 200-medley and 400 medley relay teams that won their events.
Honorable Mention: Kennedy Larson, Adams State; Sophia Buhr, Colorado School of Mines; Maggie Waddington, Nebraska-Kearney.
