Bynes claims first in Triple Jump, Sharman-Newell runs fastest mile in Colorado history at CU Invitational

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Chadron State College Sophomore Chayton Bynes and Colorado State University Pueblo Senior Reece Sharman-Newell earned the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference’s third Track & Field Athlete of the Week Awards on Thursday
 
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week Reece Sharman-Newell (Sr. CSU Pueblo, Hampshire, England)
Sharman-Newell took the track world by storm this weekend at the Colorado University Invitational, running the fastest time in Colorado history in the one-mile run. His altitude-converted time of 3:53 is the first sub-four-minute mile in Colorado state history. Sharman-Newell was also named the USTFCCCA DII Athlete of the Week for this performance.

Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Chayton Bynes, Chadron State (So, Chadron, Neb.)
Bynes posted a 15.47 meters jump, over 50 feet, in the triple jump at the Dave Little Alumni Mile in Spearfish, South Dakota. This performance is the top mark in the RMAC by over two feet. Additionally, his leap was the second longest mark amongst all NCAA Division II athletes, being one of only two jumps over 50 feet. This jump was also the second longest in Chadron State program history, as one of two jumps in school history over 50 feet, the record belonging to Isaac Grimes with a jump of 51 feet, 8 inches or 15.74 meters back in 2019.
