The Weekly Preview

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – After four weeks of preseason preparation, the 36-day sprint to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference’s men’s soccer championship begins with 10 games this week.

With the conclusion of nonconference play, it’s two familiar faces and one upstart at the top of the RMAC standings. Colorado State University Pueblo (4-0-4) and Fort Lewis College (4-1-2) occupy the second and third spots in the standings before conference play starts. They trail South Dakota Mines (5-0-2), which is off to its best start in program history.

The University of Colorado Colorado Springs, the RMAC preseason favorite, finished its nonconference slate with a 2-3-3 record, with seven of those games decided by one goal or resulting in a tie. Regis University, which was picked fourth in the preseason poll, is off to a similar start at 2-3-2, with each of its matches decided by two goals or less.

The opening week of RMAC action gets underway on Thursday with two matches – Westminster at nationally-ranked CSU Pueblo and Colorado Mesa at UCCS – followed by a three-match slate on Friday. Sunday features a full five-match slate of action beginning at 11 a.m. with Westminster University at UCCS.
