Head Coach Damon Martin named Joe I. Vigil Men’s Cross Country Coach of the Year

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Adams State University earned its 37th Rocky Mountain Athletic ConferenceMen’s Cross Country Championship title after an all-around team effort, placing four runners in the Top 10 at Monument Valley Park on Saturday to finish with 32 points.

The Grizzlies were paced by Kidus Begashaw, who finished second with a time of 23:56.0. Nathan Scherbarth (24:31.0) and Max Aldrich (24:31.2) followed in fourth and fifth place, respectively. Julian Campos finished the race in 24:33.1 for eighth place to round out Adam State’s Top 10 scorers. Jack Gumm (24:37.5) and the team’s two displacers, Housem Hrabi (24:44.8), and David Millan (24:53.0), finished in the top 25. 

After finishing third in last year’s championship, Colorado School of Mines’ Paul Knight took home the individual title and RMAC Athlete of the Meet honors after posting a new personal best and breaking the Monument Valley Park course record with a time of 23:50.5. Knight’s efforts along with Top 10 finishers, Jeremiah Vaille (24:22.3) and Daniel Appleford (24:33.3) pushed the Orediggers to a strong second-place team finish with 41 points. 

Cody Wyman, from Colorado School of Mines, was the RMAC Freshman of the Meet after finishing 20th with a time of 25:00.6.

Colorado Mesa’s Chase Brown received the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference’s Summit Award for boasting a 4.00 grade-point average while majoring in civil engineering. Brown previously won the Summit Award during the 2025 indoor and outdoor track & field seasons. 

Grizzlies’ head coach Damon Martin was named the Joe I. Vigil Men’s Cross Country Coach of the Year, an award honoring the life and legacy of Adams State Coach Joe I. Vigil. 

Attention now turns to the NCAA Division II Men’s Cross Country South Central Regional Championships hosted by Colorado State University Pueblo on November 8, at Walking Stick Golf Course in Pueblo, Colorado.
