RMAC Teams Dominate National Rankings Ahead of Championship Season

Two teams ranked as the best in the nation; 21 additional teams earn spots in the national rankings

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Fall championship season kicks off in two weeks, on October 25, with the 2025 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Cross Country Championship taking place in Colorado Springs, Colorado. With the regular season nearing its end, RMAC institutions continue to impress, as 23 teams appeared in the national rankings this week, excluding men’s and women’s golf, which did not release an updated poll. Week in and week out, the league’s institutions consistently demonstrate their depth and strength across all fall sports.

Cross country continues to lead the RMAC with eight women’s teams and six men's teams ranked, including a pair of teams being ranked as the best in the nation. Women’s soccer had four teams ranked, Football and Men’s Soccer have two teams ranked, and Volleyball has one. In each respective sport, the race for the championship crown is heating up, promising thrilling and competitive matches in the championship season. 

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
RMAC Women’s Cross Country has eight teams in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division II Cross Country National Coaches’ Poll, the most of any Division II conference. 14 RMAC Cross Country teams will compete this weekend, and 13 of them will be competing for the last time before the 2025 RMAC Cross Country Championship, held on October 25 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. 

Colorado School of Mines retained the No. 1 position for the second week in a row. Rounding out the top 10 are Adams State University at No. 4, Western Colorado University at No. 7, and the University of Colorado Colorado Springs at No. 8. Fort Lewis College (No. 11), Colorado State University Pueblo (No. 17), Colorado Mesa University (No. 28), and Colorado Christian University (No. 30) complete the rankings, while Metropolitan State University Denver received votes in the poll.

Colorado School of Mines, Adams State, and Colorado Christian will travel to Hays, Kansas on October 11, to compete in the Fort Hayes State University Tiger Open. Western Colorado, UCCS, CSU Pueblo, and MSU Denver will compete in UCCS XC Open on Friday, October 10. Fort Lewis, Colorado Mesa, and Colorado Christian will travel to Romeoville, Illinois to compete in the Lewis Crossover Invitational. 

MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
There are six RMAC Men’s Cross Country teams ranked in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division II Cross Country National Coaches’ Poll, the most of any Division II conference in the men’s rankings. The 2025 RMAC Cross Country Championship is rapidly approaching and on October 25 in Colorado Springs, Colorado with some of the nation’s best teams and runners competing for the RMAC Championship title.

This week, the USTFCCCA Top 10 featured Colorado School of Mines taking over the No. 1 position, Adams State at No. 3, Colorado Christian at No.6, and Western Colorado at No. 9. UCCS stayed at No. 12 this week, while Fort Lewis improved to be ranked No. 17. 

On October 11, Colorado School of Mines, Adams State, and Colorado Christian will travel to Kays, Kansas and face off in the Fort hayes State University Tiger Open. Western Colorado and UCCS will compete in the UCCS XC Open on Friday, October 10. Fort Lewis and another Colorado Christian squad will travel to the Midwest to compete in the Lewis Crossover Invitational, hosted by Lewis University on October 11.  

WOMEN’S SOCCER
The fifth edition of the women’s soccer national rankings from United Soccer Coaches features four RMAC squads. The RMAC Women’s Soccer Championship will take place November 7-15 at the campus sites of the highest seeds.

Colorado School of Mines (No. 11), UCCS (No. 15), and Colorado Mesa (No. 23) reappeared in this week’s rankings. Regis University earned the No. 25 spot after receiving votes last week. 

League play continues this weekend with Colorado School of Mines traveling to face Colorado Christian, and UCCS hosting Black Hills State University on Friday, October 11. Colorado Mesa will host Black Hills State, and Regis will travel to face UCCS on Sunday, October 12. Regis (No. 25), Colorado Mesa (No. 23), and UCCS (No. 15) are at the top of the leaderboards after the third week of conference play. 

MEN’S SOCCER
Three RMAC Men’s Soccer teams appeared in this week’s national coaches' poll from United Soccer Coaches, two ranked and one receiving votes. The RMAC Men’s Soccer Championship will begin on November 9 with the championship game set to take place on November 16.  

Fort Lewis improved six spots to crack the Top 10 at No. 9, and CSU Pueblo entered this week ranked No. 11. MSU Denver received votes in the poll. 

This weekend Fort Lewis travels to Salt Lake City, Utah to face conference member Westminster University on October 10. On Sunday, October 12, CSU Pueblo travels to face South Dakota Mines. MSU Denver hosts Colorado School of Mines on Thursday, October 9. UCCS currently leads in the RMAC standings after a 2-0 start in conference play. 

VOLLEYBALL
Four RMAC Volleyball teams were featured in this week’s edition of the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s (AVCA)/TARAFLEX Division II National Coaches’ Poll, one being ranked and three receiving votes. The RMAC Volleyball Championship will begin on November 18 and run through the 22, with the highest seeds hosting the first round of matches. 

This week, MSU Denver was ranked No. 12. Colorado Mesa, Colorado School of Mines, and UCCS received votes in the poll. 

Conference play continues this weekend as teams battle for the No. 1 spot in the conference, currently held by CSU Pueblo. MSU Denver hosts Black Hills State on Friday, October 10, and South Dakota Mines on Saturday, October 11. Colorado Mesa hosts Western Colorado on Friday, and Fort Lewis on Saturday. Colorado School of Mines travels to CSU Pueblo on Friday and then faces Colorado Christian on Saturday. UCCS hosts South Dakota Mines on Friday and Black Hills State on Saturday. 

FOOTBALL
Two RMAC Football teams were ranked in this week’s American Football Coaches Association’s (AFCA) Division II National Coaches’ Poll, and D2Football.com Top 25 Poll. The battle for the championship crown continues this weekend with CSU Pueblo, Chadron State College, and Western Colorado remaining undefeated in league play. 

In the AFCA Coaches’ Poll, Western Colorado and CSU Pueblo moved up in the rankings. Western Colorado earned the No. 5 spot, and CSU Pueblo moved to No. 11. The D2Football.com Top 25 Poll was similar, with Western Colorado ranked No. 6, and CSU Pueblo at No. 11. 

Conference play continues this weekend with Western Colorado hosting Black Hills State, and CSU Pueblo facing Fort Lewis at home on Saturday, October 11.
