COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Returning after one year away from the mat, Chadron State College redshirt senior Quade Smith claims the first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s Wrestling Athlete of the Week award, announced Tuesday.

Smith returned to the mat with a perfect stay at the Dakota Wesleyan Open on Nov. 8, winning the 125-pound title with a 5-0 record. Ranked the No. 14 wrestler in the 125-pound weight class, he opened the tournament with a 14-7 victory against No. 13 Sloan Johannsen of Northern State. Smith then posted back-to-back falls and a major decision to reach the final. In the second round, he needed just 1:50 to claim a fall against Jamestown’s Mario Fernandez; his third-round fall came at the 6:35 mark against Augustana’s Carter Katherman. A 12-2 major decision against Minnesota State-Moorhead’s Clayson Mele sent him to the final, where he won 4-0 against UMary’s Mason Gutenberger.
