COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Western Colorado University senior quarterback Drew Nash and Chadron State College senior linebacker Logan O’Brien are the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Football Academic Players of the Year and lead the league’s First Team Academic All-RMAC Team and Academic Honor Roll, released Friday.

Nash, a Torrance, California, native, adds another accolade to an outstanding campaign that saw him named the RMAC Offensive Player of the Year and a Harlon Hill Award Finalist. Academically, he brought a 3.67 GPA into the season as a double major in exercise and sport science at Western Colorado. In addition to earning the Offensive Academic Player of the Year recognition, he is a First-Team All-RMAC selection for the second consecutive year.

O’Brien, from Kearney, Nebraska, also added to his impressive 2025 campaign as the Defensive Academic Player of the Year after earning the RMAC Defensive Player of the Year award earlier. He owned a 3.97 GPA as a business marketing major entering the season at Chadron State. It is the third consecutive year O’Brien has earned First Team Academic All-RMAC recognition.

Joining O’Brien as a three-time honoree were CSU Pueblo kick returner and running back Moosah Alsaffar, Western Colorado senior defensive end Ricky Freymond, and Colorado School of Mines safety Will Ramsey. They lead a 27-member First Team Academic All-RMAC group that represents nine of the league’s football-sponsoring institutions.

In addition, the RMAC recognized 241 student-athletes, including the 27 First Team Academic All-RMAC honorees, on its 2025 Football Academic Honor Roll.

The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll recognizes student-athletes in each conference-sponsored sport who academically maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average, have completed two consecutive semesters at their current institution, and have used a season of competition.

Each institution’s athletic communications directors nominate student-athletes who academically maintain at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average, along with the other criteria for the Academic Honor Roll, for recognition on the First Team Academic All-RMAC in each sport. The league’s athletic communications directors for that sport vote to compose the First Team Academic All-RMAC and select the Academic Player of the Year. They are not permitted to vote for their own student-athletes.
